- Locked In’s 5 Steps are a non-religious, non-12 step program whose mission is to promote understanding and insight into the cycle of self-destructive behavior. To fulfill our mission our team has developed an intensive 12 week program that shines a light on inner conflict in a unique and creative way.
- The 5 Steps are a guide to help those in need to escape the cycle of destructive behavior. Each step has several elements which are aligned to give the most impact. Bringing the dialogistic practices of several diverse cultures (Iroquois: talking circles, Christian: listening circles, and African: Dare`), combined with the strategies of artistic visualization, humanistic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and non-violent communication. The 5 Steps are a great ally in introducing meaningful change in our institutions, schools, families and relationships. The 5 Steps are effective in encouraging youth who struggle with expressing themselves. Through heartfelt expression and attentive empathetic listening the keys support the clarification of values, co-visions and inclusiveness.
Objectives
- To create a safe environment for participants to express themselves without judgment
- To help participants vocalize needs that are missing
- To encourage and support participants in all healthy lifestyle changes
- To help participants identify internal triggers that lead to destructive behavior
- To guide participants in the forgiveness of self and others
- Alumni Network: All participants are given the opportunity to join our alumni network after completing the program. Our alumni network offers tangible resources and a continued relationship with our team of mentors for all graduates.
- All programs are facilitated by coaches who were formally incarcerated or system impacted.
Transcommunality Alumni Program
- Transcommunality is a term coined by Dr. John Brown Childs, Sociology Professor emeritus at U.S. Santa Cruz. “Tran” means across or between. The word thus means “across or between communities”.
- Transcommunality involves a form of responsiveness in which our alumni’s mutual awareness of each other and their community is enhanced and modified. Transcommunality entails a process of self-transformation, cooperation and communication among diverse approaches and ways of thought.
- Examples: Helping to create an action plan against violence, working with other organizations to solve the homeless problem, volunteering to help the elderly, etc.
- Through community activities character is built. Not only does our alumni learn the value of service and experiences of different cultures but also the value of self.

- Locked In offers programming on a sliding scale basis. If your program cannot cover the cost we will work with you to reach our common goal.
